TWSP – Communications Assistant 

Description:            
The purpose of the position is to increase Trent and community awareness and engagement in KWIC events and programs by creating effective communication materials and supporting program staff as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Review and follow all Trent health and safety documentation; KWIC policies and procedures.
 

2.    Support staff with communications to the Trent and broader Peterborough community, including: preparing and sending out press releases, creating event materials, newsletters, posting events on community calendars, social media, etc.

 

3.    Review current communication strategies, innovate new ideas, make recommendations.

 

4.    Represent KWIC at Trent and Community Outreach activities, as needed.

 

5.    Attend and report on activity at KWIC monthly staff and volunteer meetings.

 

6.    Participate in KWIC Orientation, workshops, staff/ volunteer meetings and activities (AGM), as required.

 

7.    Manage time and work plan; participate in mid-term and exit interviews.

Requirements:

Must be TWSP eligible.

An interest in world issues, global and social justice.

Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback into projects.

Excellent computer and written English communication skills.

Eye for design. Skills and experience with poster design, social media campaigns, and newsletter development and dissemination.

We are looking for a passionate, self-starter who is highly motivated, able to work independently as well as collaboratively with staff, volunteers and community partners.

Experience in community building, event development and implementation and administration would be an asset.

TWSP - Trent OXFAM Facilitator

Opportunity Location:   Trent - Peterborough campus

Opportunity Description:            
The Trent OXFAM Facilitator position is an excellent student opportunity to develop effective skills and experience in student/public engagement and education, leadership, consensus decision making, financial management (developing and monitoring cash flow for project budget), event planning and execution and facilitation skills. The Facilitator will work closely with Trent students and groups to research issues, develop activities and partnerships for the purpose of creating local opportunities for education and action connected to OXFAM Canada's mandate.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration:

·         Monitoring the Gmail and Facebook accounts

·         Communicate to students re: T.O. Refundable student levy (fall)

·         Collect the T.O. Levy cheque; create revenue & req forms for the KWIC Book keeper with receipts attached for any expenses

·         Using consensus decision making, establish with the working group a budget for the year, a work plan for activities, and a guideline for sponsorships this year (with KWIC support if needed)

·         Track activities and participation summarized in a communication flyer each spring; share with Oxfam Canada and on the website/face book annually

Outreach & Engagement:

·         Coordinate and facilitate Trent Oxfam working group meetings; assign positions/duties as needed

·         Represent T.O. at Trent/community events with outreach

·         Create education opportunities for the Trent and broader community, also through collaborations and partnerships, connected the mandate of the group

Ongoing Expectations:

·         Develop and follow an approved work plan, modifying as needed

·         Track all work hours with task summary and send to supervisor weekly with upcoming priorities noted

·         Complete Trent Time sheet, have supervisor sign off and take to Black Burn Hall

·         Participate in KWIC staff meetings to share project updates, other KWIC events as needed

·         Ensure timely communication with staff team via email

·         Help maintain a welcoming and tidy office and work space
