A KWIC History

A grassroots initiative born of community perseverance and passion for social justice, KWIC incorporated in 1989 as a learner centre and became a registered charitable organization in 1995. Today, it is the last remaining Global Education and Resource Centre in Ontario, run by dedicated staff and volunteers in collaboration with community and funding partners.

Projects nurtured under the KWIC Umbrella include Peterborough GreenUP, the Beijing Project,  the Food Policy Action Coalition, Kawartha Food Share, SEEDS for Justice Youth Program, Images Film Festival, ReFrame International Film Festival and the Youth Leadership in Sustainability Program (YLS).

KWIC currently supports Trent OXFAM, Sustainable Trent,  and TRACKS Youth program, in partnership with Trent IESS and FPHL.
