The TCRC and CFICE present:

Making Connections, Building Relationships

A webinar on how community and campus-based brokers facilitate community-based research opportunities for students.

Join us for this webinar as we share similarities and differences
between community-based and campus-based brokers.

About the webinar

Community-based research (CBR) is an approach to research that puts the community's needs and questions at the forefront. CBR is also an opportunity for students to do relevant and impactful research that both benefits the community they study and live in, and gives them an opportunity to apply learned research skills in a real-world project. Of course, building enriching placements that benefit both parties requires ongoing management of project content and expectations. How is this done?

In this webinar, presenters from the Trent Community Research Centre and McMaster University's Office of Community Engagement will discuss the ways they work in the community to help prepare, broker, develop and provide ongoing support for research projects involving students and community. Presenters will highlight the similarities and differences in operation between their organizations (one, an independent community-based non-profit and the other, a university-based centre). The webinar will provide recommendations for faculty and universities looking to develop or enhance models of community-based research, and will provide community organizations with ideas and tools for how to engage with universities.

Attendees will leave with a better understanding of different community-based research development models, as well as tools and resources for enhancing research outcomes for students, faculty, and community partners.
