Sexual Assault: The Roadshow is Coming to Peterborough in Honour of May's Sexual

Assault Awareness Month.

Art has the power to help us think differently about things.

Peterborough, Ontario – April 10, 2017 > Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre and participating artists welcome Sexual Assault: The Roadshow to Peterborough for May's Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Sexual Assault: The Roadshow is a pop up, participatory art gallery in a shipping container. The retrofitted, glass fronted container will travel on a flat-bed truck to 15 cities/areas in Ontario over a three-year period. At each stop, local anti-violence experts will work with local artists and participants to create, curate and exhibit art that "talks back" to sexual assault.

Recently, there has been unprecedented dialogue and awareness about the crime and sexual violence in general.   Sexual Assault: The Roadshow will serve as work and exhibition space for multiple art forms that will further that dialogue in creative, community based and transformative ways.

For the month of May, Sexual Assault: The Roadshow will be placed in the parking lot of the PACE program at PCVS, 201 McDonnel Street in Peterborough. During this time, local artists Anne Taylor, Micky Renders, Shelley King and Barb Hawthorn will conduct workshops and provide opportunities for the community to get involved in their collective vision of the "Facing Faceless" project. Additionally, there will be an opening and closing exhibitions which will be open to the public. Art created in stops in Toronto, Ohsweken and Hamilton will also be on display. Art workshops and exhibition times are posted at, on Facebook or contact the Centre at 705-748-5901 for more information.

Sexual Assault: The Roadshow is an Ontario wide community arts education project by sexual assault activist Jane Doe and artist/activist Lillian Allen. It is funded by the Ontario Arts Council and Vtape.
