The Community Race Relations Committee (CRRC) is hosting an Annual General Meeting and community panel event on Tuesday, May 17th at 7pm-9pm. The hybrid event is accessible virtually via Zoom and in-person at the Unitarian Fellowship of Peterborough and Beth Israel Congregation on 775 Weller Street in Peterborough, Ontario, K9J 4X4.

The event agenda includes AGM business followed by the featured program to launch CRRC’s return to in-person events and programming for positive race relations in Peterborough. Centered on the theme of Voices for Action Against Racism in Peterborough, the special program features Yvonne Lai, Director of Community Development from the New Canadians Centre (NCC) as the Master of Ceremony; opening words from Kemi Akapo, Ward 3 City Councillor and Case Management Coordinator at the NCC; an opening performance from Peterborough’s Poet Laureate, Sarah Lewis; and a guest panel featuring Danielle Adderley, the founder of the Trent Association for Black Students and member of Trent’s Anti-Racism Task Force; John Lyons, Detective Inspector for the Peterborough Police; and Patricia Wilson, founder of the Diverse Nature Collective and Community Conservation Coordinator at the Kawartha Land Trust. This event is open to the public and admission is free, with donations accepted via e-transfer or cash at the door.

This year marks CRRC’s 40th anniversary and to celebrate all the people who have contributed to four decades of anti-racism work in our community, the CRRC is producing a short video with Ben Wolfe leading the project. Members and the public are invited to attend the pre-event social between 6pm and 6:50pm to participate in the film production by sharing their CRRC memories.
