The Colleges of Trent University welcome you to a public talk with 2023 Ashley Fellow Chúk Odenigbo.

(NOTE: Lecture is in person: every registrant will receive a ZOOM link in the days before the talk, in case your situation changes and you need to attend remotely).

The Fight Against Utopian Authoritarianism

”I will be asking participants to reflect on how we imagine utopia, who defines utopia in Canada and who is leading us to this utopia. As part of this talk, we will build shared language around justice issues (e.g. positionality and worldview) and re-imagine a utopia that is inclusive of all.”

Franco-Albertain from Calgary, Mr. Odenigbo is passionate about the interactions between culture, health and the environment. This passion manifests itself in his role as Founding Director and Director of Ancestral Services for Future Ancestors Services Inc., an Indigenous and Black-owned, youth-led professional services social enterprise that advances climate justice and equity with a lens of anti-racism and ancestral accountability (www.futureancestors.ca). Mr. Odenigbo is a PhD Candidate in Medical Geography where his research looks at the relationships between human health, the environment, geographic factors, society, and healthcare to shed light on public health policies and strategies.

The Ashley Fellowship is funded by a bequest from the late Professor C.A. Ashley, longtime friend of Trent University and an enthusiastic proponent of the role which the informal contacts of College life can play in the academic pursuits of the University.
