FOSSIL FOOLS DAY RALLY
APRIL 6, 2024, 11am-noon
at the RBC branch at
806 Chemong Road
WHAT’S IT ABOUT?
RBC is the biggest funder of fossil fuels in Canada (5th in the world), having
poured over $250 Billion into fossil fuels since the Paris climate agreement
was signed. It is complicit in exacerbating the climate crisis, human rights
abuses and genocide at home and around the world. Their investments in
the Coastal GasLink pipeline violate Wet’suwet’en rights and have led to
militarized RCMP violence and a multiyear campaign of surveillance,
harassment, and brutality. Their investments in tar sands extraction
(Imperial Oil, TransMountain Expansion) violate Indigenous rights and cause
devastating climate and health impacts.
Organizations across Canada will be leading Fossil Fools Day rallies outside
of local RBC branches on April 6, as part of a national day of action, sharing
information directly with RBC customers, leaving information for RBC branch
managers and customers, and through it all, getting national attention
through a massive social media support campaign and press outreach.
On April 11th, RBC executives and shareholders will gather for their Annual
General Meeting (AGM). This is a critical moment for RBC to sell a
greenwashed narrative of success and profit to shareholders, the media and
the public. You can make sure that doesn’t happen. This year, we will be
standing in solidarity, once again, with a delegation of Indigenous
representatives from Nations across Turtle Island and around the world, who
will be bringing their message to the AGM itself.
RBC must align its actions with its words - and with the demands of science.
We’re calling on RBC to rapidly phase out fossil fuel financing, respect Free,
Prior, and Informed Consent and ramp up investments in climate safe
solutions. There is no business case for climate destruction and the
violations of Indigenous rights.
