Join Peterborough Action for Tiny Homes and its allies on Saturday, November 26 at 1 p.m. at Confederation Park, across from City Hall.
This gathering aims to show how much Peterborough cares about the crisis of homelessness. Individuals
and groups are invited to come with banners and placards.
“This is a peaceful and positive rally,” says PATH representative Sheila Nabigon-Howlett. “Peterborough
appreciates what the City has done, is doing and will be doing to house people experiencing
homelessness, but it is not enough! There are people sleeping rough, couch surfing and forced into
unsafe situations because of poverty, mental-health or addictions challenges. People are freezing in
tents right now with the first frost on the ground!”
The rally will listen to the voices of those experiencing homelessness and their allies. There will be music
and drumming to lift spirits and inspire hope. Peterborough’s quiet majority is invited to say we can and
will do better!
There will be tables and hot drinks from noon until 1 p.m. when speeches and music begin. Participants
are welcomed to be creative! Noise makers and drums all welcome in the interests of raising hope and
courage to meet the goal of endless chronic homelessness, as pledged by the City, by 2025.
According to PATH, everyone needs a place to sleep in dignity, supported by community.
Over the past year, PATH has been on a journey of discovery, exploring various models in other
Canadian cities, for an intentional, community-centred model of care and purpose, occurring within a
village- like setting, to meet the needs of those living unsheltered in Peterborough. In phase I, beginning
in 2022/23, we are establishing 15 sleeping cabins to transition those experiencing homelessness into
community. More details are available at https://pathsupport.ca/wp/about.
