What are KWIC Conversations?

KWIC Conversations are an opportunity for students and community members to come together for thoughtful and interactive conversations on timely topics and how we are experiencing what's happening in the world.

The Action and Justice Creative Reflections are an opportunity to engage with topics surrounding climate action and social justice through a creative outlet. This event entails four prompts for you to reflect on independently and then have the option to share. Feel free to mute yourself through this event and play some music, talk with friends, or enjoy the silence. Throughout the event we will be opening the floor for optional sharing and then continuing on with another prompt. By the end of the Action and Justice Creative Reflections you will have engaged with four different prompts that allow you to reflect and be creative while positioning yourself and identifying various factors that contribute to the topics we discuss. 

Use whatever media any like (paint, journaling, crayons, pastels, pencils, pens, clay, etc.) 

4 prompts will be used through the event with periods between for creativity!

Stump Stories submissions are due at 11:59pm on Monday,  July 11, 2022. 

Did your neighbourhood lose a tree to the May 2022 derecho storm? Want to share your story and what your lost tree meant to you? If so, we invite you to contribute to our Stump Stories project!

We are collecting personal narratives and photos of tree loss from individuals in the community who were affected by the derecho. Beyond the emotional loss, we will also be presenting the value of the trees within their physical environment.

Please send us your stories, photos, drawings and/or poems to communications@kwic.info! All submissions must be received by July 11th. Thank you!

The Great Journey is an educational book about salmon migration in Canada. It is written by Jocelyn Whalen, illustrated by Emily Shier and published by Ocean Wise. The Great Journey was written to educate the public about salmon migration in Canada and human influences. Community learning about global issues takes place through local dialogue and reflection at gatherings, workshops, panels, presentations, symposia, film screenings, and arts events that KWIC hosts throughout the year with many community partners.

People come away from KWIC events with new perspectives, a deeper understanding of complex world issues such as climate change, Indigenous rights, food security, gender equity, human rights, and global health.

KWIC organizes and supports regular gatherings like the Sustainable Development Goals' SDG Community Forums, the Global Community Network Roundtable, and International Women's Day.

Another way that KWIC supports local engagement is by providing a common calendar where community members can see what's coming up and where organizations and planners can coordinate activities.
